More Cuban Red Tape

Spelogica y Mort

Bob had a encounter with an custom officer at the airport. As a result of it he was relieved of his GPS and radios. It seems that you need the permission of the army to use a GPS in Cuba and permission of the Ministry of Communication to use walkie-talkie style radio. I will e mail Havana to find out how the red tape is going.

Costs

On the back page you can see the expedition cost so far. At the moment we have spent 1026 some of the equipment is available for members to buy after the expedition.

What piece of group equipment are you taking out?

Or kiss goodbye to your weight allowance.

This has changed slightly since the last newsletter as we are no longer getting the petrol drill from Imperial.

Beaker - the photographic equipment and the AA batteries needed for the equipment. If you need some speak to Beaker. . Tent. Hammer & driver

Cookie - a part of a tent, spits & cones, aid climbing material, hammer & driver

Elisa - survey kit, first aid kit, 2 person tent, mallion rapide & hangers

Martell- a 2 person tent, 22m of rope, survey kit, tape,.

Martin - a part of a tent, 100m of rope, spits and cones, survey kit, tape, and stove

Simon - a 2 person tent, 40m of rope, radios, water treatment, hammer & driver, survey kit and tape, stove

Tim - a 2 person tent, 100m of rope, water treatment, 10 mallion rapide & drivers hammer & driver 2 tackle bags.

Simon has suggested that you weigh your group equipment so we all know how much excess we have got that belongs to the expedition.

Martin has soaked the rope but it is not been labelled so when it is cut we just have to measure it again to know the approximate length .

Cookie has acquired the serious drugs end of the first aid kit whilst Simon is procuring the bandages and minor drugs part of the kit.

From our man in Havana

Everything is OK for food and transport. Bringing radios might be a waste of time since I don't think we're ever going to get permits for them and I'll just have to pick up mine when I leave. Opinion is that getting a permit for my GPS that's currently here should be OK, and hopefully we'll have paperwork for you to bring one as well. I'll talk again with Roberto tomorrow. If there's a problem then I'll advise closer to the 9th as to whether to bring one or not
